About BeyondIEP

BeyondIEP believes that every child—regardless of ability—deserves the opportunity to thrive. Founded by mother and son duo, Sahra and Khalid Sirad, our work is rooted in lived experience, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to supporting families navigating the world of special education, autism, and developmental delays. Through books, courses, and practical resources, we empower parents, caregivers, educators, and organizations with tools to advocate, educate, and uplift children with disabilities. BeyondIEP is more than a resource hub—it’s a community built on compassion, resilience, and hope. From a mother’s advocacy to a son’s self-empowerment journey, our story is one of overcoming, growth, and purpose. And now, we’re here to help others on their path—so no family walks alone

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower families and educators with inclusive resources, knowledge, and support that strengthen advocacy for children with autism and developmental delays—especially those from underrepresented and immigrant communities.

Our Vision

We envision a world where every child with disabilities is embraced, supported, and celebrated. A future where inclusive education is the norm, and families have the confidence, clarity, and community they need to navigate every step of the journey.

Khalid Sirad

Self-Advocate & Disability Rights Educator

I’m Khalid Sirad--an autistic self-advocate, community educator, and passionate voice for disability rights and inclusion. Diagnosed with autism at age 12, after years of being labeled with speech delays and undergoing speech and occupational therapy, I’ve learned to embrace my journey--and now I help others do the same. Growing up as an immigrant child in a system that often misunderstood me was challenging, but with the unwavering belief and support of my parents, I was able to thrive. I received special education support through IEP and 504 plans, and I never let labels define my future. Today, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Policy, and I’m preparing to begin my Master’s degree--a step toward my dream of creating real change through legal advocacy. Currently, I work in the nonprofit sector as a Community Education and Disability Advocacy Specialist. I use my lived experience, legal training, and cultural perspective to uplift others and break down barriers in education, access, and opportunity. I believe no one is better than anyone else--we all deserve to be seen, heard, and respected. My mission is to ensure that children and adults with disabilities, especially those from immigrant backgrounds, receive the support they need to succeed in every area of life. Let’s build a world where inclusion isn’t the exception--it’s the standard.

Sahra Sirad

Co-founder & Author

My name is Sahra Sirad, and I am a passionate advocate for families, children, and inclusive education. With professional backgrounds in Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), Licensed Massage Therapy (LMT), and Early Childhood Education, I bring a unique, holistic approach to supporting the whole child—and the whole family. But my greatest education has come from life itself. As a mother of five children—four of whom are in higher education, including children with special needs—I’ve experienced firsthand the strength, patience, and advocacy it takes to navigate the education system. I’ve supported my children through the IEP process, helped them grow life skills, and guided them into college and the workforce. That journey shaped my mission: To uplift other parents walking similar paths. To empower families facing special education challenges. To ensure no child—regardless of ability—is left behind. Through my work, I combine professional knowledge with personal experience to help others find confidence, clarity, and community. Whether you’re seeking guidance, resources, or inspiration, I’m here to walk with you. Let’s build a future of opportunity, one child and one family at a time.
